The bilateral diasteama between teeth 11-12 and 21-22 was restored with resin composite using Superior Matrix.
Superior Matrix is a matrix system with 3D realistic anatomical structure, designed considering the anatomical structures of anterior teeth.
First, it was decided to load composite on the right upper lateral tooth. After selecting the matrix applied for the mesial part of the 12th tooth from the Superior Matrix set, the size of the matrix was adjusted according to the length of the tooth by cutting it from the cervical area of the matrix with fine scissors.
Superior Matrix was arranged to tooth 12 and tested inside the mouth. Depending on the case, the wedge placement can be done at this stage, or after the superior matrix loaded with uncured composite is placed.
Before placing the composite with Superior Matrix, adhesive processes are performed.
With Superior Matrix, you can use composite in different colors in layers. In this case, two different color composites, such as the incisal edge section A1B and the cervical section A3B, were loaded into the Superior Matrix as shown in the figure. Before using composites with very high viscosity, it is recommended to preheat the composite because it increases the flowability of the composite.
Superior Matrix filled with resin composite is placed on the tooth. While the Superior Matrix is placed on the tooth, it is placed with light finger pressure. The matrix is placed in place until it reaches its position in the alignment phase. Before the composite is polymerized with light, at this stage the matrix is brought to the desired position and the excess composite is cleaned. After the resin composite is cured with a light source, Superior Matrix is removed with the aid of a dental probe.
With the removal of the Superior Matrix, the placement and shaping of the composite is completed to a great extent. Thanks to the Superior Matrix, the palatinal wall, interfacial wall, vestibule wall, incisal embrasure, palatinal, lingual and gingival embrasures are self-shaped thanks to the realistic three-dimensional anatomical design of the Superior Matrix.
The same procedures were applied for the left upper lateral tooth. However, in this restoration, the wedge was placed after the composite was placed with the Superior Matrix.
With Superior Matrix, primary, secondary and tertiary anatomical features are formed in a single-step during placement of the composite restoration. In this photograph, horizontal lines mimicking perchymata lines appear to be successful in rendering tertiary anatomy on the restoration.
Thanks to Superior Matrix, it generally does not require shaping of the composite with finishing discs and finishing burs in finishing operations. The finishing process usually ends with arranging the excess composite at the margins of the matrix. This case is an example of this application.
